- India is on the path of becoming increasingly self-reliant in the defense sector. India has achieved another success. DRDO has completed the testing of the Guided PINAKA Missile System. In November 2024, DRDO conducted the first successful flight test of the Guided Extended Range Rocket. DRDO successfully tested it in three different phases at different firing ranges.
- All the trials of PINAKA at high altitude were already completed and now successful trials have been conducted in the plain area as well. The Guided PINAKA Weapon System met all the standards set during its testing. In which work was done on different targets like range, accuracy, consistency and rate of fire.
- These tests are important because this was the last phase before the induction of the Guided PINAKA Weapon System into the Indian Army. Two PINAKA launchers were used for the test.
- The PINAKA Multiple Launch Rocket System is completely indigenous. This rocket is named after Lord Shiva’s bow ‘PINAKA’. The PINAKA rocket system launches 12 rockets in 44 seconds, that is, one rocket is launched every 4 seconds.
- The range of the PINAKA rocket launcher is from a nearby target of 7 km to 90 km away. It is impossible to stop it after firing. Its accuracy has also improved manifold. The extended range guided PINAKA rocket is equipped with GPS navigation, that is, once the target is set, after launch it will hit that target accurately. Not only this, INS i.e. inertial navigation system is installed to support GPS. This is one of the oldest methods of navigation, which was used in ancient times to navigate ships in the sea.
- High Explosive Fragmentation (HMX), cluster bombs, anti-personal, anti-tank and landmine weapons can be installed on the PINAKA rocket. These rockets are capable of carrying 100 kg of explosives. The speed of PINAKA rocket is 5757.70 kilometers per hour, that is, it attacks at a speed of 1.61 kilometers in one second.
- Many countries have shown interest in buying the indigenous multi-barrel rocket launcher PINAKA. Armenia has deployed this system on its border. While France, Indonesia and Nigeria are planning to buy it, that is, India is also exporting weapons in the defense sector. Which shows the growing strength of India.
